Do you want to do work that really matters? The Aboriginal Cultural Support Worker position has been created with a simple vision: to reduce re-offending. About the team: As part of a small team and reporting to the Offender Services and Integration Manager, you will design and deliver programs to assist and develop Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander prisoners. This is a position requiring cultural sensitivity, purpose, passion and commitment.
The ACSW position has been created to develop and lead services that are sensitive to the cultural needs of Aboriginal prisoners. Put simply, the role will develop and deliver programs that reduce the likelihood of re-offending. Some specific responsibilities are: Increase engagement of Aboriginal prisoners into education, programs, and employment Develop and maintain data collection systems to monitor and track prisoner engagement and outcomes Review best practice guidelines and use data to inform the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services delivered Provide quarterly and any ad-hoc reports to Offender Services and Integration Manager on service delivery and outcomes Develop and implement the Aboriginal Peer Listener process and monitor outcomes, Engage with newly received Aboriginal Prisoners into the Prison Contribute to violence reduction strategies with wider G4S management teams. Create community links and act as a liaison for community cultural agencies. Provide advice and support to the G4S management teams regarding Aboriginal support, community engagement and recruitment strategies Participate in case management and the associated processes that support transition back into the community Assist in the coordination of cultural activities including NAIDOC Provide mentoring and positive support for Aboriginal Prisoners Liaison with Corrections Victoria stakeholders including the Naalamba Ganbu and Nerrlinggu Yilam Contribute to risk assessments and suicide and self-harm reduction strategies for Aboriginal prisoners including participation in Risk Review Team meetings. Essential Requirements: • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander • A demonstrated knowledge of the Victorian Koori Community, both society and culture and issues impacting on it • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Koori Community • The ability to work collaboratively with members of multi-disciplinary teams Desirable Requirements: • Previous experience in a correctional environment • Diploma in Community Services or similar
• Experience with working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people ideally with some exposure to working within a correctional setting • Able to communicate well with Indigenous people • Experience with administration and using computers • Strong experience working in a team • Connections with the Victorian Koori Community • Strong existing network of relationships and areas of influences across the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
