The Land Policy and Environment Branch is looking for a motivated person to fill temporary roles in the Indigenous Country Management Section based in Canberra, ACT. This is an exciting opportunity to work on policy and programs which aim to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in recognising connection to Country and their environment. The Indigenous Country Management Section supports Indigenous people to manage their land, sea and culture through the Indigenous Rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas programs. The role will be fast paced, but also involve thinking long-term and across a range of contexts. The successful candidate will play an important part in a team, providing sound advice to team members.
Purpose: to support the delivery of a grant round, stakeholder engagement and policy development related to the extension and reform of the Indigenous Ranger Program to 2028. Specific skills and experience is desired in the following areas: • Administration and organisation • Secretariat • Project delivery • Stakeholder engagement and consultation (internal and external to government)
Ideal candidates will have the following skills and experience: • Experience in working independently in a fast paced environment • Well-developed oral and written communication skills • Creativity, flexibility, and outcomes focused • Proven personal initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities • Respect and value diversity as a member of a team. • cultural competency or understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples • demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples • commitment to continue to develop cultural competency
