NSW Treasury is looking for a high performing Associate Director passionate about driving social impact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in NSW. In this role you will collaborate across NSW Government to shape policy and investment decisions that lead to improved outcomes for Aboriginal peoples and provide high quality advice to senior management on Aboriginal-related outcomes, policy, regulatory and economic issues.
The Strategic and Aboriginal Outcomes Branch (SAO) is the primary driver of Aboriginal-related Outcome Budgeting across government. We work collaboratively with agencies to ensure adequate investment in First Nations communities, organisations, peak bodies and for services that deliver improved outcomes for Aboriginal people in NSW. The team is the relationship lead and central point of contact for Aboriginal Affairs NSW and provides strategic advice and analysis of Aboriginal-related issues within Treasury. We are a central point of contact for engagement with Indigenous issues and a resource for priority policy projects and community engagement within Treasury. As Associate Director – Strategic and Aboriginal Outcomes you will help drive high quality policy, strategies, reforms and frameworks that support Treasury’s stewardship of the public sector’s financial management and performance - with the aim of improving outcomes for Aboriginal peoples living in NSW. The position will work collaboratively with agencies to successfully drive State Outcomes that meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in NSW and provide high quality advice to senior management on Aboriginal-related outcomes, policy, reform and economic issues facing government agencies. The role will also foster strong relationships with Aboriginal organisations, representative bodies and communities based on mutual respect and a deep understanding of First Nations peoples, cultures and histories. The Associate Director is also able to build a collaborative, culturally safe and dynamic working culture and support junior colleagues to build their skills and experiences.
Essential Requirements - Demonstrated experience working on First Nations issues and a high degree of Indigenous cultural capability; - Demonstrated experience working in partnership with Aboriginal organisations, peak bodies and communities; - Curiosity and drive to find solutions to tricky Aboriginal-related policy problems; - Demonstrated people-leadership experience; - Demonstrated experience in autonomously managing projects and stakeholder engagement; - Highly adept at communicating policy and program analysis clearly and effectively (verbally and in writing); - Demonstrated ability and desire to work collaboratively; - Adept at understanding economic or financial data and basic quantitative analysis techniques; - Sound understanding of the public sector environment, including both Federal and State landscapes; and - Ability to think and act strategically with little direction. Ideal candidates will have experience managing multiple stakeholders, and have strong communication / interpersonal skills, with demonstrated track-record undertaking accurate and complex analysis (including numerical and/or policy development) under pressure.
