The ANU College of Science (CoS) comprises: the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Research School of Biology, the Research School of Chemistry, the Research School of Earth Science, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Mathematical Sciences Institute, the Research School of Physics and Engineering, and the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science.
The Business Development Officer will work collaboratively with all members of CEAT to deliver on initiatives and activities of the CEAT Research Translation Initiative. The Business Development Officer will work closely with the CEAT and College functional teams, and central University areas relevant to project delivery such as the Research Services Division, ANU Legal Office, and ANU Innovation. In addition, the Business Development Officer will establish and maintain relationships with other Colleges to facilitate collaborative projects and activities that support the initiatives of CEAT. The Business Development Officer will assist with the identification, development and processing of commercial opportunities; building new and maintaining existing relationships with government and industry clients; and facilitating processes that will add value to CEAT’s external partnerships, particularly in areas such as research and innovation projects, postgraduate and short courses, and student internships. Under broad direction, the Business Development Officer will : 1. Provide high level professional support and project services concerning all matters relating to business development including but not limited to assisting with the writing and preparation of various documents, submissions and reports and presentations to existing and potential industry and government partners and the wider community. 2. Provide advice to CEAT staff to identify strategic partnership opportunities and undertake thorough research and basic due diligence on such partners, and support their development and translation into a pipeline of commercial outcomes. 3. Assist in identifying and maintaining new industry partnerships. 4. Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and facilitate project and partnership agreements which create research and student experience opportunities such as internships and scholarships. 5. Contribute and support CEAT business development activities including but not limited to the planning and delivery of events, facilitation of workshops, data entry and data maintenance and report preparation. 6. Contribute to the development and implementation of business development strategies and plans for the effective commercial exploitation of the University’s capabilities, facilities and services. 7. Research and prepare reports on key sector issues and undertake market research, competitor, statistical and trend analyses. Contribute to CEAT’s reporting and key performance indicator data collection for industry engagement activities. 8. Comply with all ANU policies and procedures, and in particular those relating to work health and safety and equal opportunity. 9. Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the classification level of the position and in line with the principle of multi-skilling.
SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Degree with relevant experience or extensive experience in business development or project administration or an equivalent combination of extensive relevant experience and education/training. Experience within a University environment will be highly regarded. 2. Demonstrated strong relationship-building and communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders in a complex environment and assist with driving creative solutions through to implementation. 3. Proven experience in assisting with the review and evaluation of opportunities, submission writing, supporting and contributing to the preparation and coordination of complex tenders, contract negotiations and projects. 4. Proven ability to work independently, use initiative and prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high quality outcomes. 5. Well-developed verbal and written communication as evidenced by proven ability to prepare and produce high quality business correspondence, reports and meeting papers. 6. Demonstrated high level customer service skills and proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, meeting deadlines, delivering high quality outcomes and contributing to the achievement of team goals. 7. A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and occupational health and safety and a commitment to their application in a university context. ANU Officer Levels 6 and 7 are broad-banded in this stream. It is expected that at the higher levels within the broadband occupants, through experience, will have developed skills and expertise enabling them to more independently perform the full range of duties at a higher level, and that more time will be spent on the more complex functions of the position
