Established in 1974, the Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health Services (TAIHS) aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to take control of their individual, family and community health, which encompasses physical, social, emotional, cultural, spiritual and economic well-being. Their community has access to holistic primary health care that is culturally appropriate and incorporates prevention, promotion and treatment. TAIHS provides a holistic primary health care service incorporating a bulk-billing general practice medical clinic, a dental clinic, an individual support and advice service, mental health counselling, community health screening and health promotion activities. TAIHS also provides a range of community services, including crisis accommodation, child safety and early family intervention programs, and a specialist service for young people.
The CEO is a critical leadership role in the delivery of quality services to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community across multiple geographical locations. Reporting to a Board, the CEO will lead the business The CEO is required to be hands-on, supporting the day-to-day operations across all facets of TAIHS, but still required to be a strong leader who can develop and deliver a long-term strategy. Key responsibilities: • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the community, organisations, government departments and other key stakeholders to support the success and positive reputation of TAIHS • Increase the community’s usage of TAIHS Services through determining the drivers affecting engagement, and implement strategies to attract and re-introduce clients to the service • Maximise opportunities available from relevant funding sources to grow and profile the organisation • Model excellence in stakeholder engagement and communication • Achieve relevant corporate operations and leadership targets • Overall responsibility for staff engagement, including management of all performance issues • Ensure the organisation satisfies national requirements for data collection and reporting of National Key Performance Indicators (NKPI’s). You will be an experienced leader who can live and breathe the values of the organisation. You will bring to the position an executive level leadership track record and financial skills with extensive experience in health and/or community administration. Ideally, you will have experience working within a Community Controlled Health Service or Not for Profit health/community services environment. Essential Requirements: • Tertiary qualifications in Business/Management, Finance, Law, Health or Community Service (or related field essential) • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a CEO role or Executive Leadership Role • Ability to obtain a Positive Notice ‘Blue Card’ for working with children and young people before employment • Ability to obtain a Notification of Suitability before employment • Ability to hold or currently holding an Australian Driver’s Licence. Selection Criteria: 1. Experience providing strategic recommendations to a Board and delivering the objectives of a strategic plan 2. Experience in leading and managing teams to achieve operational and strategic objectives in alignment, and with commitment to, the Vision, Mission and Value of TAIHS 3. Experience leading and managing staff across different business units 4. Experience in creating business opportunities and the development of income streams including talents in developing business marketing strategies to promote the organisation in the region and beyond 5. Experience in securing grants and funding, diversifying and enhancing commercial income streams in collaboration with the CFO/ General Manager Corporate Services 6. Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with the Board, staff and a wide variety of stakeholders, government and commercial partners 7. Experience with or understanding of Indigenous Corporations, cultural sensitivity and community relations.
