The Coordinator, Indigenous Student Education will be responsible for the delivery and implementation of Indigenous student success strategies that increase student retention, progression, and completion outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within Vocational Education. The Coordinator will be required to implement programs and activities that have a positive impact on the participation, experience and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at RMIT. You will assist in identifying opportunities and facilitating respectful collaborative relationships with internal RMIT and external stakeholders within the Aboriginal Community to support the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. In this role, you will work closely with the Manager, Indigenous Student Education and leads activity within the Ngarara Willim Centre and the Office of Indigenous Education, Research and Engagement. This includes supervision of the Indigenous student team. * This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.
To come and join our team, you’ll have: 1. Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in tertiary education. 2. Expertise in providing complex student advice and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. 3. The ability to manage and supervise staff to deliver the RMIT Student Experience and improve outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples tertiary education success and experience. 4. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport with staff, Indigenous students, their families, and the community with a demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters in a professional and culturally appropriate manner. 5. The ability to facilitate relationships with internal RMIT services to support the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. 6. Excellent administrative skills including accurate and efficient record keeping and work practices. Proven ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and deadlines and meet government and institutional reporting requirements. 8. Knowledge, understanding and awareness of the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an ability to work in culturally appropriate and sensitive ways. Qualifications A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and / or equivalent experience. Preferred Demonstrated relevant work experience preferably with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
