Working under the direction of the Deputy Manager, Student Engagement, the Engagement and Outreach Assistant contributes to the University strategic priority of achieving equity by effectively assisting with the administration and management of the First-Year Experience program (FYE), supporting students from regional, rural, remote and low-SES backgrounds in their first year at ANU and the School to Tertiary Outreach Mentor Program (STOMP).
The role plays a key part in supporting the administration, coordination and reporting on the operational aspects of the programs including organising activities and answering student enquiries. There is also the opportunity to support the development of new outreach activities to engage students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. Under broad direction of the Deputy Manager, Student Engagement, the Engagement and Outreach Assistant is responsible for: 1. Providing assistance with administration of the First-Year Experience program including welcoming incoming students, answering enquiries, scheduling and promoting webinars, record keeping and associated administrative duties to support the delivery of various program activities. 2. Assisting with STOMP by undertaking administrative tasks to recruit and train ANU students to participate in the program; 3. Assisting with student enquiries, provide information and support with referrals to relevant University and local services. Work under the supervision of the Deputy Manager, Student Engagement to support with student-related issues and evaluation activities contributing to the continuous improvement of the program. 4. Report and escalate student or program related issues to the Deputy Manager, Student Engagement in a timely manner. 5. Collaborating with the team on key activities in the student and University lifecycle including Orientation Week and transition activities, summer camps run in collaboration with stakeholders, Open Day and other outreach initiatives. 6. SELECTION CRITERIA: 1. Administration experience, preferably in a higher education, community or youth environment or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training. A relevant degree or training will be highly regarded. 2. Demonstrated experience in providing timely administrative support with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to synthesize information and problem solve. 3. Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in providing a wide range of administrative support functions. 4. Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain policies and apply them in a work context. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work both independently and within a small team, to assess workload, establish priorities and meet deadlines. 5. Experience using computer-based information systems, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, with particular emphasis on data recording, analysis and reporting. Experience updating website information is desirable. 6. A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context, an understanding of educational equity issues will be highly regarded.
Classification: ANU Officer 5 (Administration) Salary package: $71,878 - $78,411 per annum plus 17% superannuation Terms: Full time, Continuing (Contingent Funded) (initial 12 months)
