An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager– Research to take responsibility for strategic financial advice and subject matter expertise within the Research Financial Advisory team and to stakeholders across the University. The position provides quality assurance for the delivery of reporting that enables the University to comply with reporting requirements and obligations in relation to grants received by the University.
The Finance Manager – Research plays a significant role in the training and implementation of financial policies and processes, ensuring that all stakeholders are educated on the reporting and compliance requirements of funding received from external funding bodies. The position represents the Finance and Business Services Division (F&BS) in University-wide initiatives on research related financial matters and reporting. The Finance Manager – Research builds and maintains professional relationships across campus and works in close collaboration with colleagues in the Corporate Finance and Financial Reporting team and also Finance and Research Services professionals across campus. ROLE STATEMENT: Under broad direction, the Finance Manager – Research will: 1. Provide expert financial advice on external research funding processes, compliance, analysis and reporting, ensuring compliance with the University’s policies, procedures, current legislation and external funding body requirements. 2. Co-ordinate the provision of responsive and expert periodic and ad hoc research funding reports and research accounting and funding compliance advice to all areas of the University ensuring that enquiries are attended to and matters are resolved in a timely manner. 3. Ensure that research accounting and reporting operations are conducted in line with all relevant ANU financial policies and guidelines and that adequate audit material is maintained. 4. Lead the planning, management and completion of grant audit engagements, ensuring relevant consultation with College Finance Teams and other relevant stakeholders, Ensuring high quality robust documentation and liaison with internal and external grant audit teams. 5. Responsible for developing and delivering an annual training program to Research Financial Advisory, College Finance and Research teams to ensure compliance with the requirements of funding received from external funding bodies. 6. Develop and evaluate practices and procedural arrangements to improve outcomes and ensure the effective delivery of financial services. 7. Play a key role in University wide Finance-related initiatives, managing the local area consultation and rollout and participate in a range of activities, workgroups and networks across campus, as required. 8. To be successful in this exciting and challenging role, you will have postgraduate qualifications and demonstrated extensive experience (membership of a professional institution (CPA or CA) is required). You will be able to demonstrate initiative and the drive to implement change, as well as be able to negotiate effectively with non-financial senior managers. SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Relevant postgraduate qualifications and demonstrated extensive experience in financial management in a complex organisation. Membership of a professional institution (CPA or CA) is required. 2. Proven external funding expertise and demonstrated strategic financial advice and planning skills to support senior management including experience managing implementation of finance-related policies, procedures and plans to improve financial outcomes. 3. Demonstrated experience applying contemporary financial management practices and proven analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, including experience analysing data from multiple sources and making recommendations on strategic initiatives. 4. Demonstrated stakeholder engagement experience and effective communication skills including high level interpersonal, liaison and consultation skills with demonstrated and experience developing comprehensive written documentation and reports, including technical analysis papers, policies and procedures. 5. Proven expertise in understanding complex issues, identifying problems and opportunities and exercising judgement to identify appropriate strategic solutions along with an ability to prioritise workloads and deliver on challenging objectives in a timely manner and on budget. 6. Demonstrated high level computer skills with experience using online data management systems and proficiency using the MsOffice suite and advanced skills in Excel is required, Experience using TM1 or comparable budgeting and reporting systems and will be highly regarded. 7. Classification: Senior Manager 1 Salary package : $113,421 - $118,839 per annum plus 17% superannuation Terms: Full time, Fixed term (18 months)
