Australian Federal Police First Nations Unit – Senior Team Member Full Time | Permanent Employment | Location Negotiable AFP Band 6 | $99,929 - $110,255 + super Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. About the Team: The Australian Federal Police First Nations Unit (FNU) is designed to promote full and unhindered First Nations participation in the AFP workforce, as well as inform the provision of culturally competent policing services to the Australian Community. The FNU is responsible for leading various projects and initiatives in partnership with business areas to deliver positive outcomes with a First Nations focus. These outcomes will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, as well as support the AFP on its journey as a culturally competent employer of choice in the delivery of frontline policing services.
The Senior Team Member is responsible for developing key initiatives and Policies, including implementation strategies in line with work program/s. This position will provide close guidance and assistance in tasking and development of junior staff within the First Nations Unit. The Senior Team Member will also be involved in other projects across the AFP’s Culture and Inclusion Section as required. The First Nations Unit Senior Team Member contributes to strategic outcomes and intent for the broader Culture and Inclusion Section, and the AFP internally and in the community. You will be culturally competent with an ability to engage sensitively and effectively with First Nations people. You will be experienced in working in fast paced environments and be capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to convey complex material in an easy-to-understand style and manner appropriate to the audience. Selection Criteria 1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to contribute to executive reporting, analysis, and briefings 2. Experience in contributing to the development of key initiatives and implementation strategies 3. Demonstrated cultural competency when engaging with First Nations people
