ANU researchers are world-leaders, who use their expertise to develop solutions to significant national and global challenges. The University is a resource for our nation, and we engage directly with government on a wide range of issues as a stakeholder and partner, led by our Chancellor, the Hon. Julie Bishop, and our Nobel Laureate Vice-Chancellor, Professor Brian P. Schmidt AC. As we seek to renew and rejuvenate our public policy and government relations activities, ANU seeks to appoint a Head of Commonwealth Relations to our Office of Commonwealth and Government Relations. Working with the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, Chief of Staff and colleagues across the campus, the Head of Commonwealth Relations will be responsible for the coordination and management of the University’s engagement and relationships with senior APS officials and the wider Commonwealth and public policy community. The Head will closely collaborate with the ANU Head of Government Relations, who will oversee the University’s engagement with political and parliamentary stakeholders
This is an outstanding opportunity to achieve change, working across the national university and our Commonwealth Government partners. The successful candidate will be an outstanding strategic thinker with the capacity to build and nurture relationships. They will have extensive experience of the public policy environment in Canberra, probably at a senior level in the Australian Public Service, as well as knowledge of the university sector, and be able to use those experiences effectively to help ANU achieve its objectives. They will be a skilled leader, able to win the trust of senior stakeholders and ANU academics and staff, as well as being an excellent communicator, able to convey complex ideas authentically. Above all, they will be a collaborative and trusted partner, both within the University and among our stakeholders, and able to act with integrity at all times.
This will be a Fixed Term 5 year contract initally. A competitive package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
