The International Student Assistant plays a key support role to incoming international students acting, as a source of advice for students and staff about legislation relevant to international students, policies and compliance, and working with other members of the Engagement and Success and Thrive teams to provide support and delivering services to our international students.
The International Student Assistant plays a key support role to incoming international students acting as a source of advice for students and staff about legislation relevant to international students, policies and compliance, and working with other members of the Engagement and Success and Thrive teams to provide support and delivering services to our international students. Under the direction of the Deputy Manager, Student Engagement, the International Student Assistant is responsible for: 1. Assisting with administration of transition activities including welcoming incoming international students, answering enquiries, scheduling and promoting webinars, record keeping and associated administrative duties to support the delivery of various program activities; 2. Responding to student enquiries, provide information and support with referrals to relevant University and local services. Work under the supervision of the Deputy Manager, Student Engagement to support with student-related issues, including regular review of policies and procedures, evaluation activities contributing to the continuous improvement of the international student experience; 3. Acting as a source of advice about legislation relevant to international students policies and compliance to ensure that the team is informed and meeting requirements, this includes remaining aware of changes to legislation requirements, supporting audits and communicating with the Academic Standards and Quality Officer (ASQO) as required; 4. Report and escalate student or program related issues to the Deputy Manager, Student Engagement in a timely manner; 5. Comply with all ANU policies and procedures, and in particular those relating to work, health and safety, and equal opportunity; 6. Carry out other related duties as required consistent with the classification of the position and work collaboratively towards achieving the strategic objectives of the DVC(SUE) portfolio.
SELECTION CRITERIA: 1. Administration experience, preferably in a higher education, community or youth environment or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training. A relevant degree or training will be highly regarded. 2. Demonstrated experience in providing timely administrative support with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to synthesize information and problem solve. 3. Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in providing a wide range of administrative support functions as well as good problem solving, investigative skills in addition to the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement. 4. Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain policies and apply them in a work context. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work both independently and within a small team, to assess workload, establish priorities and meet deadlines. 5. Demonstrated experience in working in a cross-cultural environment and in observing confidentiality, preferably in an international education environment 6. A demonstrated high level of understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context and an understanding of educational equity issues.
Classification: ANU Officer 05 (Administration) Salary package: $71,878 - $78,411 Terms: Full time, Fixed term contract (6months, with the potential for an extension)
