This position works under the general direction of the User Services Officer in the Hancock branch and will undertake work across Library branches. The Library User Services Assistant is required to liaise with Library staff and the wider ANU community. ROLE STATEMENT: Under the general direction of the User Services Officer: • Assist in the provision of access to the library collection, services and equipment across Library branches. This includes assisting with the maintenance, repair and security of the physical collection. • Liaise with academic staff on availability of course materials in accordance with established policies and procedures. • Perform shelving tasks, and lift and move material under Workplace Health & Safety guidelines*. • Retrieve material from the collection and provide document delivery services including scanning, photocopying and processing material for dispatch to other libraries. • Process material for the print and electronic collections. • Assist with the collation of collection statistics as required. • Assist with building security and maintenance matters related to facilities and equipment. • Keep abreast with and understand all library procedures relating to library user services. • Actively engage in meetings, training and professional development activities, relevant to the work area. • Undertake other duties as required consistent with the classification of the position, and in line with the principles of multi-skilling. • Comply with all ANU policies and procedures, and in particular those relating to work health and safety and equal opportunity *It is a requirement of this position to be physically fit and capable of moving items of moderate weight.
SELECTION CRITERIA: 1. Completion of a Certificate I, II or III in Information and Cultural Services, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or completion of a Year 12 certificate. 2. A sound understanding of a customer-focused service environment and an ability to liaise effectively with a diverse customer base. 3. Demonstrated experience with using desktop computer applications. Experience using automated library systems is an advantage. 4. Demonstrated numerical skills and a demonstrated ability to undertake detailed work with a high level of accuracy, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines within a changeable work environment. 5. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral with a diverse range of people across the University and within a team environment. 6. A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context.
