NATSIHWA is an association founded on the cultural and spiritual teachings of our past and present leaders, which best serves our members in their important role in achieving physical, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Over the next three years NATSIHWA will pursue this strategic direction: To improve understanding in the health system of the role, scope and effective deployment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners, as a vital and valued component of a strong professional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce needed to close the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Manager Executive Services (MES) is responsible for overseeing the provision of administration across the Divisions within NATSIHWA. The MES is responsible for ensuring the effective operations of NATSIHWA through management of the following areas: finance, administration, facilities, human resources, quality assurance, risk management and Occupational Health and Safety. The MES has a high level of responsibility to ensure the financial and compliance aspects of NATSIHWA business are sound. The MES reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and oversees the operations and management of staff within the Executive Services Division (ESD).The position involves providing administration support to the Board, CEO and Divisions within NATSIHWA including: • Manage the CEO’s diary and undertake basic research and briefings of agendas and papers for the CEO’s meetings. Provide draft responses for the CEO to approve to routine questions. • Prepare Board meeting papers and take minutes for the Board Meetings, AGM and Special General Meetings. • Undertaking travel arrangements for the NATSIHWA Board and staff; manage all travel reimbursements for the CEO, Board and other staff members where required. • Provide administration support across Divisions within NATSIHWA on relevant projects, research and policy including trying, ordering of stationary equipment for the NATSIHWA office. • Coordinate and manage the arrangements for NATSIHWA’s National Conference/Professional Development Symposium each year including bookings, marketing and promotion of the conference whilst ensuring NATSIHWA Board are briefed during the process. • Oversee the IT requirements of NATSIHWA staff, implementing and ensuring new employees undertake the NATSIHWA induction process and undertaking the monthly OH&S audit and ensure that OH&S compliance standards are in place. • Undertake any other relevant duties as directed by the CEO. Key Position Requirements 1) Demonstrated administration and corporate operations capability. 2) Understanding people management systems and processes, and a commitment to organisational culture and resilience and capability to lead in busy periods. 3) Confidence with representing NATSIHWA in public forums. 4) Able to understand and apply the requisite governance as required by the role. 5) Understanding of how to apply the necessary Finance, Risk Management and Compliance frameworks.
You will be an experienced Corporate Services or Executive Administrator with a track record that showcases your ability to work with Boards and senior executives. You will be experienced working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, members of the health sector and a range of stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will be: • A dynamic, motivated and experienced administrator with governance and/or corporate operations capability • Highly organised and experienced across governance responsibilities including preparing reports, papers and other committee and board related functions to a very high standard • Able to show experience working in a role which is fast paced and challenging • Confident to lead and manage staff • A person who aspires to excel in an agency focused on delivering better health and social outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people • Adept with working collaboratively across multiple organisations and has cultural • Able to write well and express yourself clearly and with confidence • Financially literate and able to understand financial reports and the like. Essential Requirements 1) Personal abilities/aptitudes/skills Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders, respecting cultural values and ways of doing business. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences on a range of sensitive and complex issues, especially with regard to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated ability to appropriately exercise initiative and judgement, and recognise, mitigate and resolve conflict. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Boards in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations. Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with sensitive issues and maintain a high level of confidentiality and diplomacy at all times. Proven ability to work independently under broad direction. Demonstrated ability to undertake public speaking and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and coach others in the delivery of organisational goals. 2) Experience Experience in working with non-government organisations, particularly in Not for Profit, compliance and reporting, including project and grant funding. Experience in arranging meetings/functions, responding to phone or email inquiries, making travel arrangements, filing and records management. Experience in the use of information technology, including word processing packages, electronic mail, databases, spread-sheets and PowerPoint presentations. 3) Knowledge Knowledge and understanding of the current social and cultural determinants impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing from both an historical and political perspective. Understanding and demonstrated commitment to human resource management, the principles and practices of equity, diversity and OH&S in the workplace. 4) Cultural competency A demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities including policy matters related to the role is required for this role. This covers the ability to engage and develop Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, create a culturally inclusive workplace and to coach cultural competency in others. 5) Qualifications A minimum Certificate IV in Business Administration Services or a higher relevant qualification and a minimum of 2 year’s experience is essential. Desirable criteria 6) Qualifications A University degree in Business Administration, or related field is desirable but not essential
