The Mentoring Coordinator will play a key role in the planning and development of learning and development pathways, and the creation of learning programs that supporting employees, members and participating communities in cultural learning that supports the aims and objectives of the Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation (“Firesticks”). CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mentoring Coordinator will be responsible for the facilitation of an advisory group to help inform program delivery Planning, Identification and Review Responsibilities: • Identify learning needs in accordance with the organisation’s strategic and operational plans, • Assist in the development of and effectively communicate a learning strategy that includes a certification and assessment framework for the organisation and; • Provide an annual learning plan and budget that supports this strategy and contribute to the development of an impact learning framework, • Draft documentation to secure funds both within the organisation and available from external sources that will assist in Firesticks meeting ongoing professional and community development needs in the areas of cultural fire training, mentoring and certification • Evaluate existing learning programs, make recommendations for change, and upon approval, implement these changes Development of Learning Resources: • Manage course development and delivery projects in collaboration with employees, fire practitioners, members, knowledge holders and external providers and existing training content • Develop, implement and evaluate training programs that are engaging, support learning, and where possible are also supported through the delivery via an online learning method building on existing subject matter • Consider cultural learning objectives, consult with subject matter experts and source relevant information to develop relevant and contemporary cultural content while managing sensitives and protecting indigenous knowledge, • Contribute to the identification and design of tools • Support the development of a Fire Practitioners Training Network that supports Firesticks to create, advance and share training methods and resources, • Design and develop training and assessment resources and documentation ensuring ease of use Training Organisation Responsibilities: • Create and maintain a training information system that maintains and protects training documents, student’s information and results, • Initiate, support and guide fire practitioners through certification courses and process, • Contribute to the exploration and provide advice on Firestick’s capacity to provide learning programs to communities and more broadly society. Leadership Responsibilities: • Encourage and demonstrate the need for continuous professional development, and the value it provides • Provide firestick practitioners with support, guidance and contribute to the feedback of their performance. Organisational Responsibilities: • Establish and manage the Learning and Mentoring Fire Circle and associated working groups that supports objectives, • Adhere to the Code of Conduct in a manner that is consistent with both its spirit and intent, • Adhere to all organisational policies, procedures, standards and practices, • Act with honesty, integrity and good faith at all times
This is an identified position that requires a person to be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. The best fit for this role is somebody who has: • Qualifications and or experience in the fields of Education, Engagement, Human Resources, and Workplace Training & Assessment. • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the principles of cultural burning in an educational context. • Previous experience in the creation and delivery of learning packages, including in instructional design. • Proven ability to collaborate and consult to obtain relevant information from subject matter experts. • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. • Ability to demonstrate excellent time management, attention to detail and prioritising skills. • Capacity to engage constructively and respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities to achieve high quality outcomes. • A High level of Indigenous cultural knowledge related to Fire • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment • Diploma of Vocational Training and Assessment or equivalent educational qualification • Demonstrated ability to identify business learning needs and contribute to the development of strategies and associated plans. • Ability to work as a team member within the ethos and values of Firesticks • Understanding of corporate social responsibility principles • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines • Sound proficiency with Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) • The ability to travel and work flexibly • A track record of working with communities and individuals to create positive impact • Ability to work autonomously
This is a full-time employment contract (5 days/per week) on a fixed term contract until 30 June 2024, ideally commencing ASAP. To successfully fulfil their job requirements, the successful candidate will be sometimes required to travel within Australia and work outside normal work hours. Base Salary is $99,900 per annum plus superannuation and allowances.
