Established in late March 2020, Gayaa Dhuwi (Proud Spirit) Australia (GDPSA) is the new national Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, and suicide prevention leadership body. The Operations and Policy Officer is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day procedural operations and general functionality of the organisation. This includes monitoring employee activities and providing guidance where needed, reviewing procedural and operational processes with a view for improved efficiency in organisational delivery, playing an active role in project status reporting and working closely with Indigenous communities and stakeholders. You will be: • Establishing and maintaining credible, professional relationships with key stakeholders. • Managing the employee onboarding process. • Develop, implement, and review operational policies and procedures. • Managing junior staff. • Assisting in the management of budgets and reporting, as well as oversee all other finance functions. • Assisting in long-term planning and project status reporting. • Working closely with management to ensure all operational and administrative functions are being appropriately executed.
You will be an experienced operations officer with a background in policy who will be confident in your ability to engage with Indigenous people, members of the Indigenous sector and a range of other stakeholders. Key requirements: • Staff management and development. • Understanding of financial processes. • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing work prioritises in order to deliver quality outcomes within short timeframes. • Highly organised and self-directed. • Communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with a wide variety of stakeholders. • A knowledge of the mental health area as it relates to Indigenous people. Essential Requirements: • Cultural competency covering an understanding of Indigenous people and their communities including policy matters related to the role. Desirable Requirements: • Relevant policy and/ or business administration qualifications. • Demonstrate a high-level written communication and interpersonal skills. • Advanced competency in Microsoft Office. Selection Criteria: 1. Proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people, stakeholders, and communities. 2. Well-developed financial experience in budgeting and reporting. 3. Demonstrated experience in policy development and managing projects. 4. Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to be highly motivated and flexible in a fast paced, demanding environment. 5. Well-developed IT skills including the use of databases and Microsoft Office Business Suite. 6. Demonstrated ability to manage a small team. 7. A knowledge of the mental health area as it relates to Indigenous people.
