The Planner provides high quality advice and service to the Minister for Planning in relation to planning, development and land use matters. The Planner is an integral part of the Planning Group which is responsible for providing statutory services to deliver the Minister for Planning’s responsibilities in relation to the assessment of permit applications for planning scheme amendments, and other requirements of planning legislation and instruments. Your accountabilities will include: • Prepare authoritative reports, papers, presentations, briefs and correspondence within expected timelines for Planning Group Senior Executives, Deputy Secretary, the Minister, and DELWP. • Contribute to priority planning projects and other planning initiatives or programs, as required, by contributing ideas and proposals aimed at improving the quality of State Planning Services’ functions and participate in the implementation and review of procedural strategies to increase operational efficiencies, including Smart Planning and working digitally. • Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders within Planning Group, across DELWP, other state government departments and agencies, local government, the community, and industry. • Provide a high level of customer service by prompt and regular contact with stakeholders (particularly local government), attention to detail, accuracy and professional presentation. About the Group The Planning Group delivers functions focused on Statutory Planning Services, Planning and Heritage, Building, Planning Implementation, Forward Policy and Business Strategy, and Planning Panels. The Planning Group has portfolio engagement responsibilities for a number of significant Statutory Authorities and Administrative Offices ranging in size, complexity and core functions. The State Planning Services Team: • Guides the implementation of state planning policy through local planning schemes • Assesses and makes recommendations on requests from planning authorities for authorisations and approvals of planning scheme amendments • Briefs the Minister and carries out statutory processes for ministerial “call in” of projects • Supports the Minister for Planning with advice and briefings on a wide range of planning matters that occur within Victoria • Prepares planning scheme amendments where the Minister for Planning is the planning authority
You will be a team player with an agile mindset, a passion for planning and the ability to multitask. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to liaise with varied stakeholders across the Department and external organisations. Key to this role will be your ability to connect the Traditional Owner groups and the Department and encourage sharing of views through collaboration be-tween these parties. To be successful in this role you will be well organised, articulate, and energetic. You will bring with you a depth of understanding of Aboriginal cultures, and a proven ability to engage with Traditional Owners. A tertiary qualification (or progress towards one) in a related field such as planning. Key Selection Criteria Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications 1. Experience in and knowledge of statutory and strategic land use planning within a metropolitan and regional planning context in Victoria. Capabilities 2.
