The Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement: RMIT is committed to becoming the education provider and employer of choice for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. The Office is responsible for providing the leadership and strategic direction for RMIT’s whole-of-university approach to reconciliation and engagement efforts and activities. The position of Indigenous Careers Officer involves the provision of support services to prospective and existing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students during their career journey. The position is responsible for the delivery of one-on-one careers counselling advice and involves the preparation of career action plans into each student’s individual learning plan. The position will also manage team reporting requirements, school and industry career events and drive engagement activities with employers and industry partners.
About You To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum: Relevant work experience within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Knowledge of the labour market, the VE & Higher Education sector. Knowledge of issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities regarding education and employment. Ability to effectively liaise with clients and stakeholders in building and maintaining relationships. Highly developed and confident communication skills for consulting with employers and key stakeholders and for counselling students with complex needs. Qualifications/Requirements A formal qualification in careers or near completion of careers qualifications. *This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.
