The JCSMR is seeking a highly motivated individual to play a key role in developing and implementing the communication and related public engagement activities of the School. The Senior Communications and Engagement Officer will work closely with the College, and our academic and professional staff and students, to proactively promote the many successes of the School.
This position will work closely with academic and professional staff and students within the School, University and alumni, and external organisations to execute communication and related public engagement activities. The Senior Communications and Engagement Officer is a School-based position that works in partnership with the College of Health and Medicine Strategic Communications Manager, and other communication and marketing experts across the College, its Schools, and the broader ANU communications cohort. Under the broad direction of the School Manager JCSMR and Director JCSMR, and in partnership with the College Strategic Communications Manager, the Senior Communications and Engagement Officer will: 1. Coordinate the development and implementation of communication strategies including advertising, digital and other publications, social media management, and content development, including maintaining content on the School website and social channels. 2. Manage the School’s internal communications, fostering an informed community and a positive campus culture. 3. Coordinate and support public engagement activities and events, in conjunction with relevant School staff, such as seminars and conferences, tours of the JCSMR building, laboratory and facility visits for community and student groups, academic visitors and potential donors. 4. Contribute to College-wide strategic initiatives and provide input to develop and improve the School’s communication practices and processes, with a commitment to strategy, continuous improvement and best practice in stakeholder engagement. 5. Proactively liaise with other communication and marketing experts across the College, its Schools, and the broader ANU communications cohort, exchanging ideas and information, and fostering collaboration to maximise alignment and effectiveness of all communication and engagement activities. 6. Contribute to administrative process improvements and development of communication-related policies and guidelines. 7. Comply with all ANU policies and procedures, in particular those relating to work health and safety and equal opportunity. 8. Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the classification of the position and in line with the principle of multi-skilling and professional development.
You will be responsible for the delivery of school-based events and content development for school communication channels, including web and social content. You will also play a pivotal role in improving and enhancing internal communication practices and processes, and contributing to College-wide strategic initiatives. Qualification in a relevant field and demonstrated experience in communication in a complex organisation. Experience in the higher education sector, in a science related field, or in one or more areas of medical research would be highly regarded. 2. Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of communication strategies and campaigns across traditional and/or digital channels. 3. Demonstrated experience in the planning and coordination of events and/or public engagement activities. 4. Proven high level of interpersonal and liaison skills with demonstrated initiative and an ability to effectively liaise with a wide range of people and build strong professional networks. 5. High level of demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to develop content and write engaging and impactful stories that communicate complex subjects easily. 6. Ability to maintain a flexible and proactive approach to tasks within a busy work environment and the ability to organise work priorities, multiple projects and meet tight deadlines, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. 7. Excellent information technology skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Experience with web content management systems, social channels, and design software would be highly regarded. 8.
