Educational design and development support form a critical part of the preparation and conduct of the University’s programs, helping to ensure that the highest standards of teaching and learning are consistently achieved. The Senior Educational Designer forms part of a team responsible for the design, development and improvement of high-quality educational programs with engaging student learning experiences, through collaboration, training and support. POSITION OVERVIEW The Senior Educational Designer is part of the Educational Design team, within the Centre. The position works in close collaboration with the Centre for Continuing Education, the Education Communities & Environments team, IT Services Division, academic staff and college-based educational support staff. The Senior Educational Designer will lead a team of Education Designers and work in collaboration with the other Senior Educational Designer in the centre to provide a consistent level of support to College Associate Deans Education/Student Experience) and college project teams on specific educational design projects, under the direction of the Manager, Educational Design. While this role sits centrally, the position will also work locally with college leaders, course conveners and educational support staff within the colleges to assist with the development of programs and courses in a number of modalities – including online, blended and face to face, and also informally with a network of similar professionals across the University. Under the broad direction of the Manager, the Senior Educational Designer will: 1. Lead program and course design, improve educational design and development processes and establish a consistent and sustainable approach to course development for interactive learning. 2. Facilitate the creation, development and management of high-quality educational materials and resources, including web and/or multimedia based online courseware, in collaboration with project members. 3. Build and cultivate collaborative relationships and foster communication within academic teaching communities and between College- and centrally-based staff in support of the development of high-quality, fit-for-purpose educational design solutions. 4. Provide support and assistance to staff in rethinking teaching practice and developing expertise in new teaching practices, and advice on the design, use and implementation of innovative teaching and learning approaches, technologies, software and learning environments, based on scholarship and good practice. 5. Remain current with the latest research and best practice and engage in informed discussion on educational development and interactive learning locally, campus wide and externally (e.g. national conferences). 6. Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the classification level of the position and in accordance with the principle of multi-skilling.
The Senior Educational Designer forms part of a team responsible for the design, development and improvement of high-quality educational programs with engaging student learning experiences, through collaboration, training and support. SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Progress towards postgraduate qualifications in Education, Learning Design or relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training .Experience in the higher education sector would be highly regarded. 2. Demonstrated interpersonal, team-work, consultation and negotiation skills, including the ability to partner and liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders within a complex environment. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate in multiple mediums, and present to varied audiences. 3. Demonstrated high-level organisational skills and the ability to strategically prioritise workloads and use sound judgement in decision making. A demonstrated ability to take innovative approaches leading to process improvement and the achievement of strategic goals is required. 4. Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective and efficient processes and projects, with experience in successfully working with academics and students in a collegial environment and to participate in and contribute to University-wide planning and projects. Experience in formal project management would be highly regarded. 5. Demonstrated people management experience with an ability to coach and mentor staff, to prioritise workloads and to lead the team to deliver on challenging objectives in a timely manner. 6. A demonstrated high level of understanding of OHS and equal opportunity principles and a commitment to their application in a university context.
Classification: ANU Officer 8 (Administration) Salary package: $99,612 - $106,517 per annum plus 17% superannuation Terms: Full time, Continuing
