Are you passionate about helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to get the best possible foundation for learning and life? Save the Children’s Early Childhood Development and School Transition Project works with children in Doomadgee aged 0-8, in collaboration with local service providers and schools. We are looking for an experienced leader, committed to staff development and wellbeing, as well as someone who is genuinely interested in collaboration with external partners.
In this full-time, fixed term position (to end of June 2021, with strong potential for extension), based in Doomadgee, you’ll support the design, development and delivery of the Early Childhood Development and School Transition Project, working in partnership with local stakeholders. You will be part of our Australian Services team and report to our Regional Manager. If you’d prefer, the role can be negotiated to work three weeks in the community and one week from a Save the Children hub (Townsville, Brisbane or Mount Isa) each month. Accommodation can also be provided if required. You will make an impact by: • Planning, developing and supporting the delivery of Play2Learn supported playgroup program • Assisting children and families to have a positive transition to school • Providing coaching and leadership to a small team • Building and further developing partnerships with local service providers, including health services, Doomadgee State School and the Child Care Centre
You’re an enthusiastic and committed leader with demonstrated experience in building and managing teams. You understand that children’s rights to safety, survival, development and participation is core to the way we work. Your cultural awareness and sensitivity, partnered with excellent communication skills, will enable you to build community networks and lasting relationships. Your knowledge of the region and a natural adaptability allows you to think on your feet and make well informed decisions in reaction to sudden challenges. This role requires: • Proven leadership skills and the ability to nurture a small team • Demonstrated ability to work in remote environments • Commitment to culturally safe work practices • Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate activities • Ability to manage competing priorities and de-escalate complex scenarios • Ability to work a flexible span of hours to provide support for both teams • Current valid driver’s licence
